Appointment recognizes contributions to epidemiology and disease control
Dr. Amy Greer, Associate Professor in the Ontario Veterinary College’s (OVC) Department of Population Medicine, has been named to The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists as a new member.
Dr. Greer’s research explores the introduction, spread, dynamics and control of infectious diseases in populations. Her work uses mathematical models to understand the dynamics pathogen spread and to identify ways to intervene and control diseases. Her research focuses on the intersection of epidemiology, ecology, and mathematics. The impact of her work is felt across sectors and borders preparing governments and industry to act quickly and decisively when the next outbreak hits human or animal populations.
The College consists of mid-career leaders who provide the RSC with a multigenerational capacity to help Canada and the world address major challenges and seize new opportunities including those identified in emerging fields.
“The Royal Society of Canada is very proud to welcome today an imposing group of inspiring scholars, artists and creators whose peers have recognized their exceptional contributions to the world of science and culture and to the well-being of our society. The impact of their work will continue to be felt in the development of public policies for years to come, while adding greatly to the enrichment of public life,” said Alain-G. Gagnon, president of the RSC.
Dr. Greer is one of 58 new members from across Canada being inducted on Thursday, November 16 in Waterloo.
