Dr. Neil MacLusky Named Professor Emeritus, Receives Medal of Merit

Dr. Neil MacLusky, former chair of OVC’s Department of Biomedical Sciences (2005-2016), will be named professor emeritus and honored with the prestigious Medal of Merit during the University of Guelph’s 2024 Summer Convocation Ceremonies. With a distinguished career at OVC, MacLusky is being recognized for his exceptional contributions to academia and student mentorship. 

He played a pivotal role in advancing neuroscience research, particularly in interpreting the intricate mechanisms of steroid action on the brain. His dedication to education extends beyond the laboratory, as he has served as a mentor to countless students, guiding them toward successful careers in allied health professions.  

Notably, MacLusky's innovative leadership has significantly enriched the educational landscape at the University, with his instrumental role in developing and expanding academic programs such as the honours neuroscience B.Sc. and the master of biomedical sciences. His legacy as a visionary educator and researcher continues to inspire generations of students and scholars, making him a truly deserving recipient of these esteemed accolades. 

“We are proud of Dr. MacLusky’s accomplishments and are grateful that the University has rewarded his contributions to research and teaching excellence with two of the highest honours that can be bestowed on faculty,” said Dr. Tarek Saleh, the current Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences. “As professor emeritus, he will continue his scholarly work and mentorship and elevate the reputation of our neuroscience community.”
