January 24, 2025
The Department of Population Medicine is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Amr El-Shalofy as Assistant Professor. El-Shalofy is a highly skilled equine reproduction veterinarian and clinical researcher, with extensive expertise in equine fertility management and reproductive technologies.
Born and raised in Damietta, northern Egypt, El-Shalofy graduated with honors from Cairo University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He further pursued his passion for equine medicine by earning a doctorate in equine endometritis from the University of Zurich in Switzerland. His clinical journey began with an internship at the renowned Paul Schockemöhle Stud in Germany, where he honed his skills in equine reproduction.
Over the past nine years, El-Shalofy has built an impressive career, practicing and teaching at prestigious universities and stud farms across Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Belgium. El-Shalofy’s research bridges reproductive physiology, biotechnology, and clinical theriogenology. He focuses on improving fertility management and reproductive efficiency in equines and livestock.
“Becoming part of the Ontario Veterinary College is a significant milestone and I am eager to embrace this new chapter with dedication and passion,” says El-Shalofy.
Dr. Todd Duffield, Chair of the Department of Population Medicine, shares, “Veterinary specialists like Equine Theriogenologists are in high demand and difficult to find when a short-term replacement is needed. We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Amr El-Shalofy travel here and bring his family from Egypt until the end of August to help us with our equine Theriogenology teaching and service.”
OVC warmly welcomes Dr. Amr El-Shalofy and wishes him success in his new role.
