Dr. Terri O'Sullivan, recipient of the AASV Meritorious Service Award

Dr. Terri O'Sullivan has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Meritorious Service Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV). This prestigious award highlights individuals who have provided exceptional service to the AASV and the swine veterinary profession.

O'Sullivan, a distinguished alumna of the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), earned her DVM from OVC and spent over a decade in private mixed-animal practice in rural Ontario, Canada, with a focus on food-animal medicine. She later returned to OVC to complete a PhD in epidemiology and subsequently joined the OVC faculty, where she currently pursues her passion for teaching and swine research in the Department of Population Medicine.

"Congratulations to Dr. Terri O'Sullivan on receiving the 2025 Meritorious Service Award. This recognition is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and significant contributions to the field of swine health,” said Dr. Jeffrey Wichtel, OVC’s Dean.

“We are incredibly proud to have Dr. O’Sullivan as a valued member of our faculty, and we are proud to celebrate her incredible achievements."

In 2012, O'Sullivan became the executive editor for the Journal of Swine Health and Production (JSHAP), a leading peer-reviewed journal in swine research. Under her leadership, JSHAP has published 270 manuscripts, significantly contributing to the advancement of swine health knowledge. As executive editor, O'Sullivan has played a key role in disseminating critical information to the swine veterinary community.

O'Sullivan's dedication to lifelong learning and swine health is further demonstrated by her recently acquired master’s degree in leadership, which she uses to inspire and develop future leaders in the field. She believes that strong leadership is essential for fostering innovation and collaboration within veterinary medicine.

"Dr. Terri O'Sullivan's commitment to advancing swine health management and her tireless efforts in education and research have made a significant impact on the profession. We are thrilled to see her contributions recognized by the AASV and look forward to her continued success,” said Dr. Todd Duffield, chair of the Department of Population Medicine at OVC.

"It is an honour to receive the AASV Meritorious Service Award this year. This recognition is deeply meaningful to me, as it reflects my commitment to serving our profession and advancing the field of swine health and production,” said O’Sullivan.

“I am truly grateful to be recognized by an organization that has been so influential in shaping my career and supporting the advancement of our profession."
